Following the voting in the constituency, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has taken action by initiating the formation of a special investigation team (SIT) to delve into a sex scandal allegedly implicating Hassan MP and Janata Dal (Secular) candidate Prajwal Revanna. Prajwal Revanna, who is the grandson of JDS chief and former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, has departed for Germany amidst the controversy.

The emergence of videos depicting sexual acts circulating in Hassan, some of which purportedly involve non-consensual filming or coercion of women, prompted the Karnataka State Commission for Women to urge the chief minister to establish an SIT, which was confirmed on Thursday.
Siddaramaiah announced the decision on Saturday, stating in Kannada, “The government has resolved to form a special investigation team to address the Prajwal Revanna obscene video case. Obscene video clips are being circulated in Hassan district, suggesting instances of sexual assault against women.”
He further explained, “In light of this, the Chairperson of the Women’s Commission had penned a letter to the government, advocating for an SIT investigation. This decision is a response to their plea.”
Meanwhile, Prajwal Revanna left for Germany on Saturday morning.
The JDS, aligned with the BJP, saw Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar demanding accountability from the ruling party at the Centre earlier in the day.
“The allegations of sexual assault pertain not to just any random leader in Hassan. (Karnataka BJP Chief) BY Vijayendra and others must address these accusations. Reports suggest they are dismissing the Women’s Commission’s efforts as attempts to besmirch their reputation. The Commission has corresponded with the chief minister and the home minister,” Mr. Shivakumar stated.
Responding to JDS leader and former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy’s indirect insinuations about his involvement in the case, Mr. Shivakumar asserted, “Let him mention my name. I will expose him. Is he condoning sexual assault against women with such remarks?”
